      Hi all

I’m currently working on a major project that makes use of snippets that have object styles applied to them. We’ve found that if an object style that is applied to a snippet – and that object style is present in a destination document, but has been modified to use a different paragraph style – the snippet will honour the paragraph style that was used in the object style originally, therefore creating a style override. This seems to be at odds with what’s in InDesign’s help documentation:

When a snippet contains resource definitions and these definitions are also present in the document to which it is copied, the snippet uses the resource definitions in the document.

Can anyone shed any light as to why InDesign ignore’s the change?

      Thanks
      Mijburgh

That doesn’t happen to me. In InDesign CC 2014, when I place a snippet, it loses its old formatting and takes on the formatting of the new document’s object style.

I wonder if the object had local formatting when you made the snippet?

      Thanks for the reply David.

We’ve checked the objects and all formatting was applied using object styles. I’ve even gone so far as creating a test object style that only has the paragraph style attribute activated. I then created two different paragraph styles, applied the object style to the object using the first paragraph style, exported the snippet, change the object style to use the second paragraph style, placed the snippet (both dragging it into the document as well as using the file>place command), but the first paragraph style remained, with the object style showing the ‘+’ indicating an override.

I’m currently using InDesign CC 2013, so I’m not sure if the behaviour has been changed between this and the 2014 version.
