Hi there
I have a basic book layout with a set text box size that i use for both offset printing and POD printing. The only difference between the two is that when i have to produce a POD i have to centre the text box on the page, when i need to do an offset print run i have to move the text box away from the inside accordingly, but i don’t change the size of the text box.
I wondered, is there is an easy way to move all the text boxes in one go, to either centre them if they are offset or offset them if they are centred? Rather than have to do them all manually. Also some books may have up to 30 chapters with different master pages, so just changing the masters would again be labourious.
Do any of you guys have any ideas?
Thanks and best wishes
Andy

Check out this script:

No need to find on disk. That was just waaaaay back in the CS2 days.
You can find them in the Scripts panel (window > utilities > scripts panel). Look inside Application > Samples > Javascript-

Thank you David! I found them and applied them and i worked perfectly! But it didn’t move the page numbers at the bottom and the chapter titles at the top of the page, presumably because these are part of the master pages. Is there any magic script for those guys?
Thanks again

I doubt there is any magic. Perhaps run the script on the master pages, too? Or you could hire a scripter to extend the sample script that is there.
But if your master pages are set up well, it should take about 2 minutes to modify a master page, right?

There are over 30 master pages, for 30 chapters. I’ll try the script on the master pages, if it doesn’t work i’ll just have to get in the zone ;-)!
Thanks again David. Huge help as always!

Ah, I see that in your original post now. Sorry.
But remember you can use:
* Based on master pages (where one master page is based on another)
* Synchronize Options (where you can synchronize master pages across all documents in a book)I don’t know if this will work, but it’s good to know about.

The ‘based on’ will be too laborious, but synchronize may well work! Great tip!
Thank you again David!

Ok David, so on reflection ‘based on Master pages’ might be a good option. I have realised that there is only element that has to change across the 30 master pages and i can do that easily afterwards.
Are there any articles or tutorials on this that you can recommend?
Thanks again
