Newbie disappearing text box frustration

I have an odd problem — A text box I create appears correctly on a right-hand page, but goes haywire on a left-hand page. I can only imagine there is some setting I’ve changed or overlooked, but I can’t figure out what it is.
On the right-hand page, it appears as a normal textbox with text and a blue hashtag at the end.
If I drag it to the left-hand page, it turns into a blank text box with a red plus sign. The text box seems to expand and want to thread somewhere and I don’t know how to change this. If I drag it back to the right-hand page, it’s normal again.
The same thing happens if I create a new text box on a left-hand page — I can’t position the text cursor and type in it, but I can do this normally on a right-hand page.
Setting or master page problem? Help!

From the sound of things, you have another object on that left page, which could be an image or another text frame (and possibly on a different layer), with Word Wrap turned on. This object is probably on the master page, based on your description.
Try right-clicking on the text frame, choosing Text Frame Options, and checking “Ignore Text Wrap.” You text should automagically appear. If that’s the case, remove whatever object is causing the problem or change its text-wrap setting to “off”.

Thanks to all who replied with your great ideas — you gave me several other things to think about and try out! I’m happy to report that the solution has been found! It turns out that it was a style problem — the paragraph style I applied to the text acted differently on the left-hand page from what it did on the right. I got to the bottom of it by placing the text rather than dragging it, as suggested by Mike Rankin in the second link shared by David above. This pulled the text in as “normal” paragraph style and appeared fine on the left-hand page where I wanted it. Trouble started when I applied the selected paragraph style — poof! the text disappeared again! I undid the style and manually set it — now all is well.
