In laying out a book, when I go to place the text, it flows in up to a point in the text (the same point every time, no matter how I bring in the text), then the text stops in the middle of a word on frame 90. Two frames later on #92, there is the dreaded red cross port signifying overset text, but all frames are blank after frame 90. I cannot figure out what is causing this. Please, can anyone help me?

1. Type->Hidden Characters – see if something is revealed here
2. Select that sentence and Deselect: Character->No Break
3. Is there any artwork on another layer that could have a Text Wrap?
4. Copy the text into Notepad, Save as Plain Text, Place to see if that still causes the error.Good Luck….

It’s possible that in the documemnt footnote options, the “split footnotes” isn’t checked. We get it often, as we cannot allow the notes to split. So, before formatting, it’s possible that the note takes up more than allowed.

I’ve seen that problem on occasions. Besides what the others have said, I”ve seen it happen when you have text or a subhead that has hyphenation turned off. And the head is too big to fit in the text frame.
Did you expand the text box (side to side) until the text reappeared? Usually that will give you a clue as to what might be wacky.

Thank you all so much for your suggestions. I never figured out exactly what the problem was but after 48 hours, I used this technique:
So, when you get the over set text error message but can’t find anything visible (or invisible) for why it is happening, you can just delete that section of text–a little or a lot, or all the way to the end–by doing this:
Using the Type Tool, place the cursor at the end of the section of text you want to keep. Then use this shortcut:
Cmd/Control + Shift + End (or hold down the down arrow for just a sec) Then hit Delete to remove the text permanently. In this way I was able to delete a few paragraphs of a very long string of text (100 pp.) . Then I manually typed in the missing text. Sweet relief!
