Hello everyone.
I have a multi-page document with facing pages. On one of the spreads there is a page of different orientation. Basically all pages are portrait, but this page I turned into landscape using Page Tool. Now the problem is – if I delete a page on a preceding spread I want this page to shuffle upwards but it stays bound to the spread it was on. Here is the screenshot of the Pages Panel showing what happen now and what I need to happen:

Thank you very much for the help in advance.

I was able to do this, so try:
1. Pages->both are checked: Allow Document Pages to Shuffle and Allow Selected Spread to Shuffle
2. Facing Pages should still be checked in Document Setup.-

Same in my document. Both Shuffle options are checked. But the landscape page doesn’t shuffle automatically.

I think when making your test you didn’t take into account the most important part – one of the pages on a spread must be of different size or orientation. Please, if you have time, repeat the test and let me know.

Dima, I cannot help further without seeing your file. If you can export it to IDML and upload to Dropbox, I will look at it.

Colleen, here is the link to the IDML file. I have described what I expect to happen inside the file itself.

I think you are correct, Dima: When you change the page size, it starts to break the Shuffle feature.
In most cases, I do not recommend changing the page size for Facing Pages documents.

Thank you for the reply and for the link, David. I have already read this article and have been searching the answer to my question seems all over the internet.
I am just trying to understand the reasons why InDesign act this way. Does it treat the spreads with the pages of different sizes like some kind of special spreads and that is why doesn’t want to shuffle its pages? Understanding this would help to find the workaround maybe.

Dima, after you delete Page 3, click and drag your large page so it’s next to Page 2 (unclick when you see a thin vertical line next to Page 2).

Thank you for the tip, though I of course know it. This is basically the way I have been dealing with this problem. But it is far from being perfect, if you have 80 page document and several spreads with different pages you wouldn’t want to deal with it by hand.
Unfortunately, nobody can answer why exactly InDesign doesn’t shuffle pages from these non-standard spreads automatically and how to deal with it.
