      Hi All,

I’m very confused, I have a layout trying to get lines above and below some text although this isnt working for some reason.

Please can someone unravel this riddle…

What text is selected in your document for this formatting?

      Hi David,

The text in the background which has tabs and the settings as you see there.

I see lines above and below the text. Are you trying to make it so the lines are only above the text? (currently it is across the whole paragraph?)

      Hi David.

Yes, that’s the idea and I’ve selected ‘text only’ but for some reason it’s not happening. Thanks

It looks like the text extends all the way from the left margin to the right margin. When you set the paragraph rule to Text it extends the full width of all the text in the paragraph.

Actually, then whats the point of text only option as theres lines when theres a space

It’s for doing things like this: https://creativepro.com/setting-reversed-out-headline-text-white-on-a-black-bar.php

There is no easy solution for what you’re trying to do. Perhaps put each heading in its own text frame and then anchor those frames in the larger frame.
