Hi everyone,
We’re dealing with a mystery where I work that’s been happening for a while and have just used workarounds, but I’ve had enough! Let me explain.
We’re a book/Bible publisher. On our products’ packages and in our catalogs, we show an “actual type size” window demonstrating a sample image of the Bible’s text treatment. The image used in this sample window is often a PDF created from the original InDesign file for that product’s interior, so as to be perfectly accurate in its representation.
But sometimes when we export our Bible package file from InDesign to a PDF to send to the package printer, the placed PDF in the “actual type size” window (containing text) will “leak” out, or break the bounds of the image frame that it’s sitting in. It only ever happens when the placed PDF was made from an INDD file that had live text in it. (Just to clarify, there’s a placed PDF (the text sample) within the final PDF we send to print (the package file itself).
The image provided below is a soft-proof from our print shop that we printed in-house to see this issue.
Please help! Thanks.

I have to imagine it has something to do with the quality or settings of the PDF export or the “rip” somewhere along the way…? I can provide the “job options” settings (PDF export settings) in case people want to know what’s happening when I export the package itself. I also am wondering if the settings in the original image that’s being placed (the text sample) could have export settings that are causing this to want to “break” outside the frame bounds. Not sure where the hangup is, but this can’t be normal!
