Howdy guys,
I’m just working on a picture book with images on every verso page and the text on every recto. What I’d like is a master spread that has a picture box on the verso and the primary text frame on the recto. As far as I understand it the primary text frame has to be linked from a verso to recto for it to work with smart text reflow over multiple pages when I place the body copy. Is this correct?
I can fudge it by putting a primary text frame on the verso pages which is too small for the text and then adding the picture box as well but it’s not a very elegant solution.
I can alternatively create mirrored master spreads (A-Master being text only and B-Master being images only) and then build the layout of the book by alternating between A and B first and then placing the text in but it would be nice to know if I can use smart text reflow to get indesign to automatically create those pages on the fly when I place the text. Is it possible?
Thanks in advance for any help. Most appreciated!

Do you need to use the Smart Text Reflow feature? If you are just trying to import all the text when you Place it (adding additional pages), then you do not even need a text frame on the master page. I usually do not use text frames on the master page. Instead, hold down the Shift key when you click (with the place cursor). That will add additional pages.
However, because you want text only on one side of the spread, you do need to add a blank frame on the master page. Then shift click on top of that frame on the document page.

You might be right there David. I see what you mean. Perhaps I’m just asking for too much. I guess once the body of the text is in, I could then turn smart text reflow on to help remove extra pages if the extent changes. Thanks for helping.
