We are creating templates that include the primary text frame on the master pages to make layout more efficient. The issue we’re struggling with is this:
If we choose to change the templates from facing pages to a single sided document (uncheck facing pages and then delete the left hand master pages for each spread leaving only the right hand pages) the primary text frame link from page 1 to page 2 and higher gets broken. In addition, the text gets threaded into a separate text frame. REapplying master pages doesn’t adjust the content to 2 or 3 column formats because the text frames are separate from the primary text frame. Google has yielded very little information on this topic.
Why does the link from the primary text on page 1 break?
Why does ID create separate text frames above the primary text frames on pages 2+?
I have found ‘work-arounds’ but those are not practical for training 70+ staff. This needs to work properly and it doesn’t and we can’t figure out why!
Any help is appreciated.
I’m not sure if you tried this, but:
Pages-> right click ->Master Page Options: Change from 2 pages to 1
Do you need to change from facing pages to single pages often? That is very rare for most people.
When you turn off Facing Pages, your document should reshuffle. You should not need to delete the odd number pages. It should just work. Does for me. Maybe you have Allow Document Pages to Shuffle disabled?
