I’m trying to export a booklet I created for a client to PDF, with the pages imposed, for printing on 11×17 paper. When I choose Print Booklet and file type at PS to later open in Acrobat for conversion, I’m not given an 11×17/tabloid page size. I can only print to letter size or the other (e.g., A4, legal) defaults. “Custom” is grayed out in the menu, so I can’t select that. Any tips? — Nick

This seems to be a long-time PPD issue between Apple and Adobe. Scroll to the bottom of the thread for the latest. Maybe they’re trying to keep good relations with third-party imposition plug-ins/software?

I will try it too. Otherwise, if it’s not a million pages, you can do it manually (I did this for years, using keyboard shortcuts for aligning).
Luck!

I just wrote about this a month or so ago:

Hope that helps! -

David, for me, (CC 2014, Distiller X, OS X 10.9.5) this only works when the final PDF is 8.5×11. I tried changing the page size in Distiller to 11×17, no luck. That’s why I’m thinking it’s a PPD issue.

Just read your post. Thanks. This works, to a point, but doesn’t resolve my problem: My only paper size choice is 8.5×11, and I want to print to 11×17. That doesn’t exist as size option in the print settings and “custom” is grayed out (inaccessible)….

Holy smokes, this just worked.
-Install PPD per Adobe’s instructions.
InDesign
-File->Print Booklet-In Print Settings:
-Printer: PostScript File
-PPD: Device IndependentPrint the .ps file
In Distiller:
-Default page size: 17×11
-Open .ps file, distillI got an imposed 17×11 file with this method. I’m around and can do screen shots if you need them.

Oh, jeez, sorry, I should have read the OP more clearly.
Yes, it’s a PPD issue. So picking a printer that has a PPD that can actually print 11×17 should work. Or, Colleen mentioned, using Device Independent! -
