Proper noun list for index

I'm in trouble now. For ages I've been using Sonar Bookends Index from Virginia Systems to generate a list of proper nouns and, from that list, generate a preliminary index for authors to start indexing their books. Now I've done the same thing for a book that has lots of very lengthy footnotes (I'm using CS5.5, Mac OS X Snow Leopard) BUT although the plugin lists proper nouns it finds in the book's footnotes, it will not put them in the index.
I can't even get onto the Virginia Systems website (I've been trying for two days) to find some support/ask about this problem. So I wondered if there were any other plugins that do the same thing. I've looked at IndexMatic 2 but I don't think it does anything simple like this.
If the publisher ever gave me time to set up indices in InD, I'd have a go, especially as he sometimes gives me a list of topics. But then I find that with 33 pages of topics I have to enter each one separately (because the dialogue box has to be re-opened for each one) and it just takes forever and a day.
So there are 2 questions: anyone know of an alternative to Sonar Bookends Index? And the second, how can I get InD to import a list of topics without having to enter each one separately?

IndexMatic bypasses the native InDesign index feature so it can't help you if you need a pure ID index.
Anyway, the script can generate an independent index from any document or book, including footnotes if required. To retrieve proper nouns, you can target all words which start with an uppercase letter. Use then the Single Query mode and send the following query:
/[A-Z]w+/I
To also grab composite terms such as “Battle of Arras”, or “Marshal Joffre”, use rather the following query:
/[A-Z]w+( w{1,2})?( [A-Z]w+)?/I
Note that this pattern will also collect capitalized common names located at the beginning of sentences–like “The” in: “The cat meows.” So if you run the above query, you probably should generate an intermediate wordlist through the “Hit Report” feature, which allows you to prepare an explicit Query List.
Also, note that the IndexMatic's Query List mode supports simple wordlists. Just paste the items in the Query Editor—or directly open the text file within—and press “Build Index.”

Thank you so much Marc (and I've purchased IndexMatic 2) — I'm so very grateful for the query help. And thank you very much David. I just cannot open the Virginia Systems website — the indicators in FireFox and Safari just go round and round and round …
I'm so unhappy now with the answer you so kindly obtained for me from VS — the extra price just for indexing footnotes 2-3 times a year would be quite phenomenal ($hundreds), especially when the generation of the Word List picks up the words anyway, so why can't they then acquire a page number?
Never mind, I now have Marc's clever IndexMatic 2 and as ever, I do so appreciate the help and expertise of people who make the time to answer questions on this forum. Thank you all so much.
