Hi all! Hopefully there is a magical script out there that would allow me to do this, but I’m guessing there isn’t… for those of you who use a RIP software, many RIPs have settings in their preflight which will automatically create designated bleed on an image by duplicating the outermost pixel around the edge of an image and stretching it out. I made an image to better illustrate what I am shooting for…
I am using a workflow which sometimes requires placing PDFs (often times without appropriate bleed) into InDesign, and then creating a new PDF for print. In order to create bleed, I could either open the PDF in Photoshop (which I really really try to avoid) and manually add 1/2″ bleed by copying and flipping images over on each side. I also sometimes can copy the placed PDF in InDesign and flip it onto all four sides to create bleed, but this leaves the area where the crop marks should go without any bleed. Neither of these are ideal for many reasons, but sometimes it’s what I have to do to solve the problem.
I figure if there is a script that will bleed out pixels for me, it would be a little more optimal. Could anybody point me in the right direction, or is this not possible? Thanks!

Hi,
Something you can do easily by script is flipping the page contents regarding to page bounds so you always have bleed contents. However I don’t think a script could stretch the physical pixels the way you introduced.
If you are dealing with a lot of PDF files you may as well consider professional prepress tools like Enfocus PitStop Server or Callas PDF ToolBox Server that can easily add bleed content. However it’s also a flip in this case.

There is an InDesign script that extends bleed and it’s cheap https://sellfy.com/p/Um2g/
