Searching deeply in the forum i didn’t find a solution for an old problem: how to split a document into parts based on a paragraph style. The case is a book with a lot of parts and chapters. Due to the fact that InDesign cannot re-numerate footnotes when exporting to epub, i need to split those chapters into individual documents and build the book based on those files. Is there any script to do so?

      Thanks in advance.

Try the script mentioned by Uwe Laubender in this Adobe Forum: https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1014766 (11th comment in).

The script is written by Hans Haesler and is in German, but I believe it will do what you want.

      Painstakingly, I’ve don this before.

Export the entire file to IDML

Open the IDML file – it opens as Untitled

Remove all information except for chapter 1

Rinse and repeat for the other chapters/sections etc.

It honestly doesn’t take that long – but then again, a script is faster lol

Hey, I have a script that does just that and way more actually. If interested, let me know and I’ll send it to you.

Hello Michael, I have this same problem. I must split numerous separate chapter files into individual scene files, multiple scenes per chapter, based on the style SceneStart. Would you send a copy of your script to: [email protected] and thank you. Bill B.
