Hi Everyone,
I don’t know whether this is the right place to inquire something related to the new trend in the industry or not. I’m working with layouts since 1996 and have a good knowledge of multiple applications like InDesign, Quark, CorelDraw, MSOffice etc. Now I would like to switch to UX/UI design. Can someone suggest the best starting line to learn this new thing. Apart from this I also want to learn HTML5, JavaScript etc.
Any ideas…

For an interesting take on interface design, and not just on computers, I can recommend the book “The Design of Everyday Things” by Donald Norman. It’s a bit old, but the underlying principles are very interesting, and applicable to all sorts of design work.
I find his treatment of doors is funny – if a door requires an instruction manual (i.e. the word “push” or “pull”), then the handles are designed wrong.Good luck,
Chris. -

Thanks Chris, I’ll definitely go through it.
Any other ideas by anyone else?

Hi Massod,
About Javascript, you can learn basics with MOOC : https://www.codecademy.com
site : https://eloquentjavascript.net/ (explanations and exercices)
and books.
My favorites ones :
– Data Structures and Algorithms with JavaScript by Michael McMillan (thos one contains exercices)
– Speaking JavaScript by Axel Rauschmayer (sort of my dictionnary about javascript)Depending of what you need next, you’ll search more appropriate books/sites.
Scripting for inDesign is a good start.
About HTML5, nothing but…
when I needed to lern more about HTML4 and CSS2 I read the specs/documentation, it was the best way to know what is possible to do or not… and useful.
It’s the geeky way to do it :Phttps://www.w3schools.com/ can help with tutorials and informations too.
I hope it can be helpful!
