I’m inputting corrections on a book I typeset. The file has a little vector below the chapter number, but for the most part, its a text-only file. Every time I click into the InDesign file to input something from the pdf markup, it takes at least 30 seconds or more to register the cursor or select text – something that is usually instantaneous.

I was originally working in Dropbox, so I moved the file to my desktop to see if that was the issue, but it didn’t help. I work on files like this all the time and never have this issue. Any ideas? Will over 300 corrections, I can’t afford for it to take so long!

      Thanks.

There are many possibilities listed here:

If it is just one document, you might also try exporting as IDML and opening that IDML file.

I had come across that post on a search of the site (I do try to search things first before starting a new post…) but nothing seemed relevant to this file.
I will try the IDML and see if that fixes the issue.
      Thanks, David!

      Eek. Didn’t work.
      Any other ideas?

Did you look for grep styles in the paragraphs? I had the same problem. The more Grep styles that are used, especially those which keep words or numbers together slow down CC_2014 and 2015.

Oh no – that WAS the problem.
I’m working in CS6 and only had one GREP style in the paragraph styles – one that prevented orphans – just as you wrote.
Thanks for finding my problem, Gert, but what now? I only just dove into GREP and was so happy to add grep styles as a way of minimizing my manual work.

try using it as a find and change query. You’ll have to check the layout again afterwards. I din’t find another solution, maybe somebody else has an idea? This problem started with CS6 an became even worse with the later versions. It sometimes takes more than 1 minute before CC respons to the cursor.
