why are there always 2 bounding boxes per object?

I don’t quite understand this still
Say I make a recantagle, no strokes, only black fill like so:

What is the first box even used for?
That is very strange. It should not work like that. Are you holding down the Option/Alt key when dragging that corner point? If so, then you are making a duplicate of the object when you drag.
