Updated Scripts for CS3

Adobe staffer Olav Kvern (who is David’s co-author for the Real World InDesign books) recently fixed a few bugs in the scripts he wrote — the ones that come with InDesign CS3 — and made the new versions available for downloading from the Adobe web site. He recommends that users replace the default scripts they currently have with the ones on the site.

You can download the fixed scripts from the InDesign CS3 XML and Scripting page on Adobe.com — click the Scripting Resources tab in the middle of the page to find the link. Going to the Adobe web page might be useful because there are many other scripting resources listed there. But, if you’re in a hurry, you can download the .zip file of scripts here: InDesign CS3 Sample Scripts.

After downloading and decompressing the archive, move the scripts into the relevant language folder (Javascript, VBScript and AppleScript) inside Adobe InDesign CS3 > Scripts > Scripts Panel > Samples, replacing the existing ones.

Olav says, “In particular, I fixed bugs in FindChangeByList (all languages), Neon (all languages), and LabelGraphics (AppleScript). This last one is particularly embarrassing — due to a version control problem, most of the AppleScript is missing.”

If you’re not sure what the scripts do, the InDesign CS3 Sample Scripts Read Me.pdf, found inside the Scripts Panel > Samples folder, has a brief explanation of each one.

Some of my jobs require a lot of little image boxes all over the page…a product year book, if you will! I love the Add Guides script, saves a lot of time!

Very strange: If I follow your link I only get access to the old files, dated April 07, no notice about an update. I’m sitting in Germany; do we only get the old stuff ;-)

I’m using the same link that Olav referred people to. I asked him the same question (about the dates) but haven’t heard back. I’ll e-mail him again.

Does anyone know what syntax in Applescript creates an En dash?

Darren, your best bet for getting information about scripting is to post at the Adobe.com/forums site for InDesign Scripting.
