This Week in InDesign Articles, Number 115
Rust stops for no man. (Probably a good reason not to name your dog Rust.) But fortunately, there’s too much new stuff going on in the InDesign world for rust to take hold! Check out these articles and videos to help you keep up with the cutting edge:
- As we’ve mentioned, InDesign CC 9.2 (a.k.a. “CC January release”) shipped this week.
- Here’s Vikrant’s take on what’s new in InDesign
- Rufus Deuchler did a good video on what’s new in the hyperlinks feature
- Photoshop and Illustrator also rolled out new versions:
- Check out the article Mike Rankin wrote up at CreativePro.com
- Conrad Chavez wrote up the new Photoshop features here
- Olav Martin Kvern wrote a terrific script that lets you install other scripts — plus you’ll also find at that link a great blog post that describes scripting in general and why everyone should learn about it.
- Hey, did you read Sandee Cohen’s excellent piece about Moving Text between InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop?
- Several new lynda.com video titles you should know about:
- InDesign CC: EPUB Fundamentals has been updated to cover the new features in CC 9.2, released this week. EPUB creators are definitely going to want to update and watch these movies!
- Adapting an English Layout into Spanish with InDesign, by Diane Burns, is a terrific short movie that discusses multi-lingual publishing issues. (While it focuses on Spanish, much of the material would be just as relevant for French or other languages.)
- DPS v29 also rolled out recently with new features such as the ability to stream video and audio… here’s Margot’s explanation of what’s new in v29
- We’ve mentioned the in5 plug-in the past, and how it lets you export HTML5 from InDesign (really: the whole page!). Version 2 just came out, along with support for InDesign’s animations. Yes, you can apply animations in InDesign and they’ll work in the exported HTML file. (The author of in5 will be at PePcon: The Print + ePublishing Conference this year; you can ask him all your questions then.)
- Hey, speaking of PePcon: Here’s why Bart Van de Wiele will be at PePcon this year, in his own words.
- Want to get EPUB or other file formats out of InDesign? Check out the DocDataFlow project from Rorohiko.
- Are you a developer or publisher or you just want to distribute your files or add-ons via Adobe Exchange? Check out this article on How to Package Content for Adobe Exchange.
- Do you care about libraries and books? Read Glenn Fleishman’s take on it here. Good stuff!
Enjoy!
