Free Lynda.com Video: InDesign for Editors

3

Did you ever try to cook in someone else’s kitchen? Even if you knew the recipe for what you were making, it probably took a lot more time than usual, and you might have felt clumsy and awkward since you didn’t know where all the tools were. Something similar happens when folks with a particular skill set, like editors, are asked to work in an environment that wasn’t created for them, like InDesign.

Fortunately, Nigel French has a new Lynda.com course designed specifically to help. It’s called InDesign For Editors, and it shows how to set up a custom editorial workspace, how to select and edit text efficiently in InDesign, and how to use editorial workflow features like Notes, the Story Editor, and Track Changes.

Among the free movies being offered is this one on common problems we all encounter when editing text. Even if you’re not an editor (and you always order take out at a friend’s house) it’s definitely worth watching!

I can’t tell you how excited I am about the above mentioned course. (That sounds so sad!!! :)) I have been scouring Lynda.com and other sites for months in order to find something similar, as I am attempting to arm myself with as many skills (apps) as possible for my new business – I’m returning to my roots!

Is there any chance that an up-to-date course on InCopy CC 2015 will be launched in the near future? If so, I would be so grateful if you could let me know. (I’ve already completed InCopy CS5 and all David & AnneMarie’s courses on InDesign.)
In fact, I’m awash with InDesign!!!!

Have just been comparing the above video course alongside Keith Gilbert’s article of 2014, InDesign for Editors, and would suggest that Quick Apply and Cmd + J be added to the list, as these save such a lot of time and effort.

However, both video and article are of great help. I don’t know about anyone else, but I tend to forget half of the commands, etc., if I haven’t used them on a regular basis.
