InDesign 101: Tabs
For everyone who’s ever pressed the tab key on a keyboard: there’s still much to be discovered!
When I first learned to use a typewriter (a 1952 Royal that my father had brought home from his law office), setting tabs was not an easy thing. If I wanted a tab stop at the 25th character position, I had to turn the typewriter around, and count 25 of the tiny silver markers at the back of the device. Then, once I had found the correct slot, I took a small pin that pushed the marker slightly away from the others. Then repeat the process for each additional tab stop.

HOW long have I been using InDesign?? I did not know about the Right Indent Tab feature, which I could have used hundreds of times, or that the magnet icon only works under a particular condition. It’s weird that the Right Indent can only be applied manually and not as part of a paragraph style, but still I’m grateful to have learned about it—thank you!
