InDesign 2020 Updated
Adobe has released the first update to InDesign 2020 (15.0.1) to fix some bugs. Here’s a list of what is addressed in this release. You can find the full details here.
Stability
- InDesign crashes on moving or resizing tables when the text in a cell is aligned using cell options
- InDesign crashes on clicking “Column Rule” tab in the Text Frame Options dialog when multiple text frames are selected with different states
- InDesign crashes on launch due to an unexpected issue in Font Manager module
- InDesign crashes randomly while you work on a document
Core Features and Workflow Fixes
- [macOS only] Unable to overwrite PDF when saving to network
- [macOS only] While importing from Excel to InDesign, number cells (date, number, currency, etc.) are imported as zeros
- Vertical alignment in text frames working incorrectly
- Tags defined under Articles panel are not exported properly
- Split columns do not work correctly
- PDF comments imported on master pages in case of overlapping master page item behind the comment
- Incorrect alignment for the tab indent of RTL numbered list
- Difficult to select Hebrew diacritics, vowels, and trop

Nice to see Adobe making bug fixes. I’d be delighted to see these releases every month or two. Unlike new features that need careful testing, there is no reason these could not come out often.
Alas, I just discovered that one of the most irritating of ID’s bugs still isn’t fixed, that’s the range automatically applied when creating index entries. Often when I create an entry with a range of say three pages, then create subsequent entries with new words made by selecting some text and then clicking on the “Create a new index entry” icon in the Index panel that same range is applied but without ID displaying what that (wrong range) entry is. That’s rarely what I want. I want it to default to the current page, since that’s what is most common. If it is different, I know to change it. And yes, that could be improved still more by having a checkbox for “Make this range the default.”
I also find it irritating that I have to manually refresh (“Update preview”) when I make changes. There’s enough horsepower in current computers to automatically refresh every time there’s any change.
And yeah, I know I should submit that. Well I just did, along with a more general one to make some major changes in the indexing UI. Entering index entries is one of the most tedious and time-consuming features in ID. Too much scrolling up and down to choose existing entries, for instance.
I upgraded to 2020 from 2019 and wished I hadn’t! Text jumps pages. Suddenly I have a blank page and the text that was on it has been superimposed over the text box on the next page. Columns aren’t working properly either. Am trying to get a book finished and off to press and I can’t because every time I open the file something else has happened. Any suggestions?
