  • Glenn Kramer says:

This is great news, however I’ve been trying to update all morning and Adobe Application Manager says there’s no updates available. I wonder if it’s still being sent out to all the Adobe servers. I can’t wait to update my InDesign.

  • The update seems to have been pull off from the application update or as a standalone download. No idea why..

  • F vd Geest says:

Hmmmm… I already updated (stand alone updater), sure hope it wasn’t faulty…

  • swcannon says:

I just worked on an ePub after the 6 8.0.1 upgrade and all of the single line paragraph spacing is ignored in the output?

The text all runs together and the whole 85 page book is now a mess. Any ideas. I just wanted to add a few changes prior to publishing and everything changed since the ePub output before the upgrade?

Help if you have any ideas.

    Thanks

  • Glenn Kramer says:

It’s possible that Adobe realized something was faulty about this update, so they removed it right away. Well, I hope it gets corrected soon and then reposted.

  • swcannon you mean all your paragraphs were merged into one paragraph?

  • inkeye says:

I updated this morning. I haven’t noticed anything particularly buggy. I also haven’t exported anything other than a PDF today.

    We’ll see what happens.

  • swcannon says:

    Anne-Marie:

Yes the single line space I used between paragraphs was completely ignored in the ePub export. Everyone of them throughout the entire ePub.

I have the CS6 cloud subscription so I simply uninstalled the updated version of InDesign and reinstalled.

This solve my problem and the exported ePub from the reinstalled software respects the line spacing again?

Interesting to note that I exported several pages as an interactive and print PFD after the update and the single line inserted between exported properly, but not as an ePub.

I am good to go again since the reinstall without the new update?

Hope this helps, love You and David!!!

    • Sheogorath says:

Have you tried using HTML paragraph tags? Unless you do funky things with them (margin-top:0; for example), then they will automatically create whitespace between each paragraph. Simples!

  • CS6.0 was the first version to support empty returns. What they did was export them with a non-breaking space in each paragraph, which is a hack to force white space in a web page. That goes against all rules of nature in EPUB/HTML export. :D 2 or more returns in a row should collapse to one return; just as a bunch of spaces collapse to one space, a bunch of tabs collapse to one space, and others. You’re supposed to use space above/below the paragraph, which gets converted to non-hacky markup of margin-top and margin-bottom.

BUT it made users like you and I guess others happy, which is why they did it I think.

In CS6.01 they regained their senses, and now you need to use space above/below …this is the best way to add space between paragraphs even for print and PDF projects, for many reasons.

In CS6.01 you could add non-breaking spaces to empty returns yourself in InDesign, and then you’d get the hacky results you’re after in the EPUB. :D

  • updates says:

They may have pulled it in order to include their new Verisign certificate, which was hacked. You’ll notice updates today for media encoder, prelude, speedgrade, premiere…

Yay, another 300MB download for a premiere update :(

  • Johnn M says:

This it’s good new thing , Now it’s okay with PDF Fixed

  • inkeye says:

Hey, I noticed that my comment, the last one, has a profile link that isn’t mine.

I commented that I didn’t notice anything buggy and only exported PDF.

    Weird.

I checked my profile and it didn’t seemed hacked. So I’m not sure what happened.

  • inkeye, it goes to inkeye studios. That’s not your profile link?

  • By the way the InDesign CS6.01 (ver 8.01) update patches are available again.

    Mac:

    Windows:
    https://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5465

If you work with InCopy users make sure they run their InCopy CS6.01 updates too.

  • inkeye says:

I see what happened. My post was somewhat duplicated.

I’m seeing a post that has a user “free pricing” that has duplicated my post verbatim with the exception of the last line.

My post is at 12:57 p.m. and the “free pricing” post that I’m seeing is at 3:11 p.m.

  • inkeye, got it! Dang those spammers are sneaky.

  • inkeye says:

    Cool.

You guys work hard to give us info and I didn’t want the board to start filling up with spam or for people to think my account was a spam account.

  • Peter Bailey says:

I’ve found this latest update particularly slow. I’m seeing the PC-like spinning beachball way too often. So, I’m going to uninstall and reinstall and see if that helps.

  • I was very glad to see the “space-before” issue fixed. That was really painful.

Alternate Layouts still has some oddities. Export jpeg will export both layouts by default, whereas export PDF will only export the primary layout, no matter which one is currently targeted, unless you explicitly select a different one.

I’m still trying to make up my mind whether the fact that Search/Replace on a document includes all layouts, not just the targeted one, is a bug. The fact that Search/Replace will ignore grouped stories when the search is limited to Stories is definitely a bug.

  • Bit frustrated that they removed the nbsp in export. Now i have to find and replace each xhtml file to get my breaks back. I quite often want different breaks between sections and the best way to control it in my experience is to have a style for ‘gaps’ which will have a paragraph with a nbsp in it. Then I can add single and double spaces as I please without having to change all my styles from the print edition.

Also since the update I have noticed that my version of inDesign on windows8 is hanging quite alot more. Nearly as sluggish as my Mac version now!

  • Jamie, if you have a print (paragraph) style that sets up space before/after to get the spacing you want, but you’d like different spacing in your ebook, you don’t need to modify your print styles at all. Use the style mapping feature to map to the CSS style that has the spacing you want, and then either edit the CSS after the fact, or link to an external CSS with your specific specs for that style when you export to EPUB.

You can link to multiple CSS files, they’re additive … they don’t replace others. So you can make an external CSS file that only has the style for your section heads, for example.
