InQuestion: April 2017

InQuestion is a regular column devoted to answering
your questions about working with InDesign.

Q: I’m really enjoying InDesign’s EPUB capabilities, but I’m stuck on one thing. No matter what I try, I can’t get my bulleted lists to honor the color of the bullets when I export a reflowable EPUB. I’ve created a character style for the bullet and it all looks great in InDesign. Is there some trick to get them to display in color without some crazy amount of coding?

Or: simply set the Lists to Convert to text in the export options for ePub (Do not convert to text in the InDesign document itself! In CC 2017 this works fine (but maybe you have to tag as li for the paragraph style if you want to be a neat person).
Indents, text styles in this way work fine these days is my expierence in CC 2017…

    • Bob Levine says:

I respectfully disagree, Frans. Converting the bulleted lists to plain text removes the alignment and ul and li tags are essential for screen readers.

      • F Van der Geest says:

Yes, the typical ‘list indent’ in HTML now is the same as in the InDesign doc and as I said in my reply you have to re enter the li tag if needed in the paragraph style.. But for appearence to closest match that of the InDesign layout this works fine. So I do not disagree with you, I call it an alternative fact, oh no sorry, I mean alternative way ;-)

  • F Van der Geest says:

Oh and to be clear: I meant, as I wrote, NOT convert to text in InDesign but in the Text options in the Export dialog for ePub (just to make sure that this came over the right way in my reply)
