    I have been laying out books for 25 years and I was always taught that space below was normally to be avoided. Not sure where this space after advice came from? The recent addition of “space between paragraphs of same style” makes space below redundant in most cases as far as I can see. Just my opinion of course. If space after works for you…go with it.

    Great tip about the subhead space before.
    I just finished a newsletter with story text imported from Word docs. I have been using ‘space after’ for most paragraph styles but ‘apace before’ makes more sense for the subheads.
    I did have an issue with an anchored object (graphic) not flowing as I wanted. The story was set up in a working document with long columns and then pasted into the real 2-column layout. The anchored object wound up at the top of the second column and I wanted to change the paragraph style to increase font size and leading to fill up both columns more. As I increased the leading, the object stayed stuck at the top until it disappeared off the page. I ended up putting a column break in column 1 to force some lines to go above object in column 2. Changing space above or below did not seem to effect this.
