Recosoft ships ID2Office v2.2 – Export InDesign files to Word, PowerPoint & Keynote
Osaka, Japan, November 18 2016 – Recosoft Corporation the developers of PDF conversion software and PDF to Adobe® InDesign® converter tools has released ID2Office v2.2 the newest version of the InDesign to Word, PowerPoint® and Keynote conversion plug-in for InDesign CC 2017.
ID2Office v2.2 has been enhanced to support Adobe InDesign CC 2017, the latest version of InDesign for both macOS and Windows. Additionally, ID2Office v2.2 has been augmented to convert style sheet properties defined in InDesign tables into Word Table style sheets properties. ID2Office v2.2 also improves conversion fidelity in several areas when exporting InDesign files to the Word, PowerPoint and Keynote type.

ID2Office converts the text, associated styles, paragraph structure, corresponding property, frames linking, tables, graphics and other InDesign object and document properties to the matching Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint and Apple Keynote object and file properties; converting every page into an equivalent page in the resulting Word, PowerPoint or Keynote file. ID2Office exports InDesign files to Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint or Apple Keynote resulting in enhanced workflow automation.

I’m just curious–why would anyone want to convert an ID file to a Word file or PowerpPoint or Keynote?
Word is a word processing program and PowerPoint is…well…slides.
I can see to convert so far as keystrokes or something–but the layouts?
Seriously–do people actually paginate books in Word, PowerPoint, or Keynote?
Again–before I get flamed–I just don’t understand, and hopefully someone will enlighten me (which I would appreciate).
But my mind is still thinking about some “guru” our company hired about 15 years ago (he is no longer with us), who suggested we should paginate books in Word Perfect.
One anecdotal use that a client of mine uses this for is to make alterations to earlier versions of a textbook. The textbook – set in Adobe InDesign – is saved as word files so that the authors (there can be many of them) can edit the files in word (they don’t have InDesign or InCopy). The changes are never minor – they’re often rehashing large portions of content.
It’s not the greatest way of “round-tripping” a file but it works for them and they want to concentrate on being teachers and lecturers, not software experts.
We do the same thing, Colin. But they are just usually regular books, not text books or real complicated ones that we have to export. Then we just export as .rtf and resave as a Word file.
I guess I can see the use of this program for more complicated books. Thanks.

I represent Recosoft (www.recosoft.com) who makes ID2Office. You pose a good question. Why does anyone want to convert InDesign to Word/PPT or Keynote?
Designers often do their work in InDesign but they have to hand off material to Marketing, Sales and Customers that use – PowerPoint, Word, Keynote (not everyone uses InDesign); and the majority of the “Office” staff literally use Microsoft Office or Keynote.
ID2Office facilitates this process of data interchange between InDesign and the tools that most Office staff use.
ID2Office is v2.2 for a good reason (we started with InDesign CS4 support). We were just at Adobe Max 2016 and many of our customers stopped by our Exhibit to speak to us about our future releases of ID2Office & PDF2ID. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the reply, Paul. I only work on longer documents (books). The only time I really need to export to Word is when the author decides he is doing an update of the book years later and wants something that resembles a manauscript.

I agree that Word and Powerpoint (and Keynote) are not for books for longer documents. But, as Paul mentioned, they’re a fact of life for shorter documents, and of course especially presentations.
Our designers and artworkers are sometimes asked to produce promotional documents or sales presentations for our clients in Word or PowerPoint. Our team would prefer to work in InDesign and supply a pdf for client use but the reason the client wants Word or PPT is so that they can edit and develop the final documents themselves. Some of our guys can just about (begrudgingly) get by in Office software but it’s obviously not what they are familiar with, so if this plug-in works well it could mean that our guys can work in the software that they know inside out and then convert to software that they don’t!
