I’ve been sitting in a dark soundproof booth recently, recording videos for lynda.com (which is now a part of LinkedIn!) and getting into some nitty-gritty of InDesign features. If you’ve been looking at InDesign too much recently, it’s time to take a break: Look at stuff about InDesign instead!

• If you use Word and InDesign, you have to read Jamie McKee’s article on CreativePro about Moving Text From Word to InDesign
• Newspapers are making 1/10 of what they made a decade ago?! They need to innovate, but don’t have the resources, says this article.
• Here’s another excellent article about the new Adobe Comp “touch” app for doing layout on an iPad (and then sending it to InDesign)
• Resizing and Scaling are two of the most important things to know how to do in InDesign. Here’s a good tutorial from Adobe on how to do ‘em!
• I love the Next Style feature in InDesign, letting you quickly change from one paragraph style to another. Monica wrote up a nice how-to here.
• One of the ongoing problems of publishing tablet apps is how to get people to pay for them. Thus this cartoon about FastCo’s new app amused me.
• Making EPUBs from InDesign? If you care about the fonts your reader will see, you should read this article by Kevin Callahan (our new editor at epubsecrets.com)
• This isn’t about InDesign specifically, but rather how to tell a story through a stack, or a series of pages. It’s an interesting read  Making this kind of story is quite easy with InDesign.
• Silicon Publishing is connecting the Adobe Experience Manager with InDesign Server, to interesting results!
• Have you ever opened a dialog box (such as File > File Info) and had it not show up? It might be sitting off-screen. Here’s one good solution for resetting that.
• It is important that you know the difference between “lettering” and “type.”
• Want your color or photo to “bleed” off the side of the page? Here’s a little tutorial on how to make sure it works right.
• Harbs has updated In-Tools ScriptBay, which stopped working recently.
• Erica Gamet has been writing about the Liquid Layout feature in InDesign recently. Check it out!
• Ever wanted to design your own font? Learn how Mark Simonson does it here. And then see how to do it for free here.
• But even more cool is IndyFont, which lets you design fonts using InDesign! I didn’t realize that it could even make alternate ligatures like a “% off” symbol!
• If you haven’t seen WordsFlow, you should check out how it lets you link MS Word documents to InDesign docs, so you can keep editing in both places.
