This Week in InDesign Articles, Number 24
Order iPad… check. Gather InDesign articles… check! Write up weekly article roundup… working on it!
It’s been a busy week! Our InDesignSecrets seminar tour launches this week with our first event in Minneapolis, followed next week in New Jersey (just outside of New York City). We’ll be expanding our list of cities in the next month or two (yes, we know we have to come to the San Francisco area… soon!). We’re also having too much fun adding speakers and sessions to the Print and ePublishing Conference in May in Seattle. That’s going to be a way-too-fun-and-educational show. Sign up now!
Meanwhile, here are some articles you should know about:
- Terry White wrote up a nice piece for Layers on creating layouts in InDesign for photographers. I’m not sure I agree with every step (in particular, I think he is glossing over the color management issues a bit), it’s a great start!
- If you’re looking to buy the Creative Suite Premium, check out this offer from Adobe on getting Gridiron Flow for free with your purchase. Cool! Not sure how long that offer is good for. Hm.
- Sometimes great articles just get greater over time. Here’s one at typophile from a few years ago about creating baseline grids. Check it out!
- Still using InDesign CS3? Need to make ePub documents? Check out this series of articles about how to do it and what to watch for!
- You know our friend Mordy Golding? He’s started doing free webinars on Fridays! This is great stuff for anyone who wants to learn Illustrator better.
- Chuck Green pointed us to an amazing resource: 137 years of Popular Science magazine! As he points out, it’s a great way to see how graphic design changed over time.
- Do you want to learn Dreamweaver and CSS better? You need to ask our friend Brian Wood! He is now offering an AskBrianWood subscription service that gives you access to videos and even real, life q&a with Brian!
- If you miss your dose of Rufus Deuchler, don’t fret… His videos keep popping up! Here’s one on Data Merge in InDesign. Here’s another one on the highly-misunderstood Layout Adjustment feature. He did these for CS Insider (before Adobe fired him for being too awesome).
- Curious about Version Cue! Stop it! No longer relevant. Just forget you ever heard that name. More info here.
- There’s always more about ePub these days… I just noticed this blog post at Adobe that discusses some best practices for creating ePubs from CS4’s.
- Like your text to be justified? You gotta’ watch this Creative Sweet TV episode about the H&J settings… well, the J stuff at least.
- Finally, this one is about Acrobat rather than InDesign, but it’s worth a read, as most folks don’t know you can do this! Read Anne-Marie’s excellent article at creativepro.com about inserting text boxes into PDFs (and refrying them)!
Okay, whew! Write weekly article round-up… Check! Next on the list… hit the Publish button…
Was Rufus really canned? So-so sorry to hear that. BIG mistake. Once again.
Great selection of articles. I saved three for later reference. Thank you.
Thanks David and Anne-Marie!
You guys are the best. InDesign Secrets is a great resource! That data merge vid by Rufus is great, he has some real talent.
