My wife is off to a conference and I’m watching our boys for a few days. That means I have limited brainspace for things like clever introductions to these little blogs posts. So I’ll just tell you that you really don’t want to miss these… check ’em out!

  • Anne-Marie’s EPUB title at lynda.com has been updated for CS5.5… if you’re making EPUBs, you really want CS5.5 and you really want to watch this title.
  • And, speaking of lynda.com, you have to check out this new video title on creating effects in InDesign by the fabulous Mike Rankin! They’re going to release just one movie at a time to keep up the suspense!
  • Speak Spanish? Live near Puerto Rico? Interested in ePublishing?
  • I’m loving these examples of EPUB pages from Ron Bilodeau! They give me hope that EPUB can actually be pleasant to read.
  • By the way, anyone interested in EPUB needs to know about EPUB3… it’s coming and it’s going to finally change everything for the better!
  • If you’re into publishing, you need to know about HTML5. Period. And Adobe is trying to make it easier to create HTML5 pages/animations with their new Edge technology. Want to check it out before you try it? Look at this new ExpressiveWeb.com site. Of course, they’re not the only ones working on this kind of thing; Aquafadas also has a new tool called MotionComposer.
  • If you’re a newspaper, should you care about the Web? Some would say the answer is obvious. Others would disagree. Here’s Russell Viers on the subject.
  • You bought a new MacBook and realized that there’s no numeric keypad on it?! Here’s a good solution.
  • Is it sans serif? sanserif? Wow, what a conundrum! Fortunately, we have Thomas Phinney to discuss this with.
  • Did you know that InDesign CS5.5 has improved its PDF/X4 export?
  • Have a multi-billion dollar franchise (such as Harry Potter)? You really want to make sure you have all the rights to the fonts you’re using!
  • I am super-duper happy to report that Teacup Software has updated their plug-ins for CS5.5, including PatternMaker and Barcode Maker!
  • This article called “All Photos are Manipulated” is the article I’ve been meaning to write for 15 years. Thank goodness Ben Long wrote it so I don’t have to think about it anymore.
  • Curious about how to use InDesign’s Gap tool? Here’s a step-by-step that explains it all for you.

  • Eugene Tyson says:

That Harry Potter thing is interesting. Because I showed it to some people and the language in the font license is ambigious. I’d be interested to see how that plays out?
