Ever since we’ve gone to laptops and/or smaller keyboards, I can’t figure out how to get the ‘select everything from cursor point forward to end of text’ shortcut that allowed me to select and delete text including overflow. It used to be shift/cmd/opt page down on the old extended keyboards, but I can’t get it to work with the newer keyboards.
Go to Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts, select Product Area: Text and Tables, scroll down to Select to end of story, and assign a new shortcut for the action. It seems that not all combinations will work — shift+cmd+/ will but shift+cmd+\ will not — so you may have to test a few times. The standard shortcut in ID CC 2015 is shift+cmd+end.
I reveal overset text by double clicking on the text frame handle I want the text frame to expand to fit. I double click the bottom middle handle if I want the frame to grown taller, the right middle handle if I want the frame to grow wider, and the lower right corner if I want the frame to shrink to fit the text. Reference point may be relevant (I forget at the moment).
If you need to see that overset text to edit the text down to fit onto a page or into a particular frame, there’s another trick that works as well. Click on the little box in the lower right of the frame that’s intended to link to the next frame in the flow. Then create a temporary frame off to the side.
That’ll let you see the overflow as you edit the text for length. When done, you only need to delete that temporary frame.
Another way is to press command+y to enter Story editor. There you can see all the text.
The following grows the text box vertically, it there a short cut to grow the text horizontally?
Got overset text you need to reveal by expanding the text frame? You don’t have to manually drag the frame to fit the text. Just select the frame and press Command+Option+C/Control+Alt+C. The box will grow to exactly fit the text.
Cheers, John
You can do that by double-clicking a handles on the side of the text frame. If you double-click on a corner handle, the frame will grow both vertically and horizontally.
This works for a single text frame – what about ALL text frames in a file. Is there a way to expand ALL text frames either on a page or in a file?
You can at least use the preflight function to find all overset text boxes.
