Hi,
Anyone have any experience laying out spreads with CAD vectors embedded into PDFs?
Rendering when panning and zooming is really very slow. Especially when considering that the PDF viewers handle larger files of the same content with no problems at all, no lag, no redraw issues.
It’s not a disk write issue. Tried it on a machine with an SSD installed, no difference at all.
Could this be a PDF handler type issue? Since the PDF is just a wrapper. They are fairly complex files, with lots of curves etc. But again, they render no problems in the various viewers, proper zippy.
Had thought upgrading the hardware to a machine with dedicated graphics processor would solve/alleviate this issue. But no massive changes. Mainly as it seems there’s no way to force ID to use the dedicated graphics and it just defaults to the integrated GPU.
Anyway, hope someone’s got some tips?

Difference in InDesign between viewing with View > Display Performance > Typical vs. High? I assume it is only slow when you have it set to High? When it is set to Typical, it should be just a low-res preview.

Hi,
Thanks for this. Issue is with High Qual display performance. It is on this setting that I’d like to improve the performance.
Basically as far as I am able to tell it’s due to ID defaulting to the integrated gpu. Would like to be able to view my images at full res at least for a portion of the time when laying out.Nice once

If you just need good quality images, I wonder if it would be better to “save as and optimize” to a different format, such as PDF/X4. Then import those into InDesign instead of the PDF with full CAD/3D images.
