You all are my last, best hope.
I am in the process of trying to complete a commentary on the Bible book of Revelation. The editing is done and I have been working for about a week-and-a-half to persuade InDesign to produce a workable index. In frustration, I even looked into the indexing program “Sonar Bookends” recommended on this site – but the $400.00 price tag is way, way beyond this retirees ability to pay. I have tried numerous times on the Adobe InDesign Community page and none of their suggestions worked. I need to finish this this week and am about to just forget an index altogether.
My book is 500+ pages long and really needs an index. No matter what I try, Index persists in creating an index where all of the page numbers for individual words are the same, and where there are a number of references for the same word, the whole list is identical. Below is an example:

Any ideas before I pull out whatever hair I have left and forget the index?
Thanks in advance for your help,

Hi Dan, that sounds very frustrating. It’s hard to say what might be happening there. Indexing is never fun, no matter what tool you use. But this does sound rather mysterious.
Without seeing the document and how you indexed it, it’s hard to say what could have gone wrong. There are other indexing tools, such as Indexmatic https://www.indiscripts.com
But you should be able to make this work with InDesign alone.
