      Hi all,

I am very new to indesign and working hard to learn all the basic features. I would like to style my doctoral thesis using indesign. Therefore, i will use the book feature having separate chapter documents. I am currently struggling a little bit with the numbering of these chapters. I would like to have a title page for each chapter containing “Chapter X” next textbox “Title of Chapter”. Two questions concerning these:
      1. I created a paragraph style called head 1 to style both text boxes. However, I don’t want to have the recurring “Chapter X” text in the second text box. Should I just change the paragraph style of the second text box to basic text and style it for every chapter manually?
      2. I would love the number “X” to be a different font (i.e. larger) than the text “Chapter”. I could, of course, change the number from “Chapter ^#” to just “Chapter” and put the right number manually, but is there a way to keep the automatic numbering and change the font of the number?

Thanks a lot in advance for your help!
      Anna

      1. You need to create a new paragraph style for the second text box since you want them to be styled differently.
      2. Create a new character style called Number for the the number “X” in the font/size/color you want. Then highlight the number and apply that character style to it.
