I have been working on a French and English manual and it has a lot of cross references within it. I am not really having issues with the English version, but with the French there are some grammatical differences. ‘Figure’ is capitalized when it is labeling the different figures found within the document. I use these for cross references. However, when they are referred to within paragraphs it’s lower case.
Example: Figure 1’ (cross reference), figure 1 (within paragraph)
So the issue is when I use that cross reference, it is automatically capitalized because the source of the cross reference is capitalized. I did some quick research and hoped that I could apply a character style or GREP style that could make ‘Figure’ be lowercase when it’s used in paragraphs, but that isn’t possible. I want to change the reference to be lowercase without having to alter the original source.
Is there a solution to this? I am working on one manual at the moment, but there’s actually another 10 French and English manuals or so that I will still have to complete. I really hope there’s something efficient for this…
Do the opposite! You can capitalize something in lowercase using a grep style!
