Hello, my first post!
I have been using linked excel spreadsheets for awhile and recently came upon a problem.
I had linked a few spreadsheet in an indesign document and when i updated all the links the system seperators had reformated. For example, commas for thousands have been changed to blank spaces and so forth.
With my limited knowledge on the subject I tried several times to save the correct option in Excel even before and aftersaving the excel document. I also tried looking at the langauge settings for the OS.
Little lost on this, any help or light on the cause and ways of solving or combating the issue would be greatly appreciated.Let me know if i can provide additional information that may help you, help me :)
Kind regards,
Niklas

Sorry, I’m not sure what the problem could be. Are you moving the files from mac to windows or vice versa?

This might be related, we came across a similar problem with Microsoft products and Adobe when copying and pasting information. It seems that Microsoft insist on using the language setting of the computer to set its numbers, Adobe does not. In my case our Macintosh was running the French system so all numbers were treated as 1000,00$ but American is $1,000.00, so we finally figured out that we had to change the language of the computer to “English US” in order for things to work. But since we are bilingual and work with both languages we are often changing the settings back and forth.
Hope this helps.

Hi David and Andre!
David: The files are always in a pc environment.
Andre: This is interesting, when we copy and paste from the excel sheet it works fine. I tried resetting the system to all English but still the linked files would not display correctly.
The odd part is that on the same system it display correctly in the excel sheet but will not display correctly in indesign.
David: Can i post images within the forums or do i have to upload somewhere else and share a link?
Best regards,
Niklas

Update: Changing the region in the OS(PC) setting for the desired number formatting seemed to have solved this issue.
