Good day everyone, it’s my first time on this forum :)
And yes, I have an issue with exporting an InDD file as PDF smallest file size.
The problem is that if I place the file in a book and use “export book”, the final PDF file is 40 mb, while if I export the same InDD file using the export feature without book, the final PDF file is 8mb.
I have tried too many solutions like removing InDesign, resetting the PDF preset, using another preset, but I always got a PDF way smaller than the other. Even using another preset like High Quality still got me 2 PDFs with two different sizes.
I am not an InDD amateur and I am really confused about what could be the problem :(

I tried to reproduce this behaviour without success. I made a new book in which I placed one document and exported via ‘Export Book to PDF …’ on the book palette submenu using the same preset I use for proofing single files. The PDF file produced was the same size as the PDF produced by exporting the separate ID file. Same result exporting one of three documents in a book via ‘Export Selected Documents to PDF …”
Could you describe in more detail the file and the book in which it is placed? Have you compared the two versions using Preflight in Acrobat?

The issue is only occurring on one PC, all the other PCs are working fine and they export in both scenarios a 40mb file.
Given the fact that a “smallest file size” is supposed to be small, I am not sure anymore whether all the other PCs are faulty or the one I am having troubles with.
The file is about 50 pages and contains links in AI, EPS, JPEG, PNG, and PSD photos. But again, as long as it is exporting the same preset in two different sizes, I am pretty sure I have a problem.
No I haven’t compared the files on Preflight yet, can you tell me what exactly do you mean?
