Hi guys,
(first ever post in here…)
I teach graphic design and I have come across a problem that I need help with solving… So the student has to produce an 8 pg document in InDesign using master pages etc etc… and it needs to be set up for press. When he was setting up his file he had facing pages (on the short edge) on an A6 document, I did’nt think anything of it, until I got the printed version… Its saddle stitched on the top (long edge) I questioned him, because I expected it to be on the side, but he said thats how he wanted it. I don’t believe its been set up correctly for that output, but I can’t for the life of me figure out how to set it up properly.
Is there a feature that I have missed?? is there a straight forward way of doing it?TIA

My feeling is that InDesign users should almost never try to impose pages in InDesign. Pages should be in the final order (pages 1 through 8), make a PDF, and then let imposition software handle how to set them up for printing.

Sorry David, maybe I didn’t make my self clear. Yes the pages are 1 to 8 and yes absolutely the printer will do the imposing, but I think its the facing pages that are the issue. With facing pages, the fold would be in the middle of the facing pages. (which is how he has set it up) but he actually wants the fold to be at the top. Because he has set it up with the facing pages he’s encountered problems with the bleed etc.
Im wondering if there is a feature that will allow you to have facing pages “top and bottom” rather than facing pages “left and right”?
Hopefully that made more sense.

Ah! I understand now… sorry. Here are some resources:
https://creativepro.com/laying-out-facing-pages-vertically.php
https://creativepro.com/two-tips-in-one-vertical-spreads-and-shared-layouts.phpNo wait… those don’t focus on the main solution, which is to use the Rotate Spread feature in the Pages panel (which rotates the visual appearance of the spread)

Thank you thank you!!! the rotate spread is exactly what I need. :)
I just wanted to make sure I was teaching him a nice clean way to do it. (there was plenty of dodgy ways I could of shown him)
Thanks a million! :) -

It appears the problem has been solved and the following has some limitations, but this 2010 post from Cari Jansen was fun to try: https://creativepro.com/vertical-master-page-spreads.php
