Hi there,
New ID user trying to solve a mystery with footnotes. I am working with a 40-ish page document that has several levels of ordered headings, set up as paragraph styles. I am trying to insert a footnote right at the end of a sentence preceding the start of section 4. As soon as I click to insert a footnote, my entire paragraph disappears. In experimenting to try to find a solution, I put the footnote earlier in the paragraph and it worked fine, except that it put the actual footnote at the end of the paragraph (i.e. before the section 4 header) instead of at the bottom of the column. If I turn off the paragraph style for the header, and put the footnote where I want it, it behaves normally. (Note that previous footnotes in the document always appeared at the bottom of the column as expected.)
One possible issue is that, in trying to solve a previous mystery, I put in section breaks. Thinking that maybe that was the problem, I deleted a bunch of the text before and after this section heading, and re-placed it in the hope of making the section break go away (since I can’t find a way to delete them.) but that didn’t work.
So maybe it’s the section break (although it didn’t happen with any of the previous footnotes) or maybe it’s the formatting of the heading style, or maybe it’s a keep options issue? I just don’t know. Any suggestions to try would be appreciated.
