      Hello friends,
I am in the process of working with my editors in our department to create a more efficient workflow. I am trying to convince them to use InCopy rather than have them open up a native InDesign file. Our editors have InDesign on their machines.

I am nervous about them using InDesign because everyone likes to be a designer.

Can you help me name some benefits of using InCopy over using InDesign for editing purposes?

This will be my first (and theirs) forway into InCopy if we adopt it. So I’m familiar with it but not proficient in this workflow at the moment.

      Thanks for your help.

Hi Billy, well someone could write a book about that topic. If you you a lynda.com subscription, you could view the first videos of Chad Celius training title of InCopy. He discusses the pros and cons.

      Pros:
      – can only change text, no geometry > cannot create or move textframes
      – Both (the designer and the editor) can work at the same time in the same document
      – Better handling of controlling overflow
      – Better control for different texters with assignments

Thanks, Kai. I’ve been watching the Lynda.com videos all day today. Luckily, it is a slow day. I think I can convince them now.
