      Hi!
I need to create a guide book, with running section numbers (eg, section 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 etc) and I need to have automatic page numbering as well.

To create my running section numbers,
I used combination of Master Page and ‘page section’ to do so as follows:
      • insert ‘Current page number’ on Master page1, with prefix ‘A1.’
      • insert ‘Current page number’ on Master page2, with prefix ‘B2.’
      • etc

-Mark out ‘Section 1’ on pages menu, with Master page1 applied.
-Mark out ‘Section 2’ (and hence select ‘Restart page numbering’), with Master page2 applied.
      -etc

So this will give me A1.1, A1.2, A1.3 etc until I apply Master page2 on Section 2 onwards, where it’ll then read: B2.1, B2.2, B2.3 etc

However, since I had to “restart” the page numbers on every New section as that is being reflected onto the running section numbers, I could not have running page numbers across all pages.

Is there a better way to do my section numbering so that I could keep running page numbers?

      Please help.

      Thanks!

It should be possible to create a numbered list that continues across frames for your Section+Page numbering, using the Section marker as a prefix. The text frame would have to contain a white space character, so as to activate the number for that frame. This could work with just one master page if you split each section out into its own document and collected them using the Book panel. Alternatively, you could restart the numbering on the first such frame of each new section.

Your regular folios could then simply be “Current page number” without prefix.

Thanks for your reply! Have yet to explore your solution but I found this link in the process:

I think this maybe worth exploring to see if it fits my requirement! The diagram shows multi-level numbering system!
