      Hi !

I need to make “edit original” use the right program (in Indesign). I find this article : https://creativepro.com/make-edit-original-use-the-right-program.php/comment-page-1#comment-2209646

It says : “In Mac OS X, select a file in the Finder as described above, and choose Get Info (Command-I) from the File menu. In the Open With panel, select the program you want InDesign to use for Edit Original for files with this extension, and – most importantly – click the Change All button.

Problem : When i make the modification and click on “Change All”, it does not take into account the modification. For example : i choose “open with Illustrator CS6” (in place of Illustrator CC) i click “Change All” and it comes back to “Illustrator CC”…

      Do you know why ?

      Thanks !

Yes, frustrating – no, don’t know why.
My workaround is to have a permanent Dock icon for the desired version of the program, and drag-and-drop the file onto the Dock icon.
Slightly more accurate than right-click / open with / select the right one from CC17/CC14/CC15/CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6 (yes, that’s the order they come up in for me; and yes, I’ve still got a client who won’t upgrade from CS3).

      hope that helps,
      Chris.

I think I have found something. I think the reason why the function “Change All” behaves like this is because the program does not appears in Launchpad : when you choose a program that appears in Launchpad and click “Change All” it works ; if the program does not appears in Launchpad “Change All” will not work (it comes back on previous program).

Why some programs do not appear in Launchpad (in my case Illustrator CS6) ? I don’t know.

But i found a way to add software in Launchpad (@Chris Thompson : it may interest you) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=daTqnbGvJM4
It works great. I have now Illustrator CS6 in Launchpad and i can now click on “Change All” button. It works !

Now… what is weird is that when i click on “edit original” in Indesign, now it opens the right program (illustrator cs6) but the file does not open… ‘– (grrrr!!!)

@Chris Thompson : ha ha :-) I never saw someone that has so many versions :-)

Hmm, Launchpad had completely passed me by. Possibly connected with having so many versions (i.e. long-term user = old habits work just fine).
      Good luck!

Try this: right click, open with… select InDesign cc and check use this program as default.
Or something like that. it helped me. Second option is PathFinder. Change default program thru PathFinder and it should work.
