I have an InDesign CS document that has a single thread of text for the body of book. The TOC is separate a separate text thread and the front material is a separate text thread.

Within the body of the book, at the beginning of every chapter there is an embedded image (very simple image) that has a style assigned. The style includes instructions to start on a new page, put a couple of inches of space below, and keep with the next 4 lines of text. The following row of text has the chapter title style applied. Nothing special about it. These two lines appear as the first 2 lines of each chapter – copied and pasted with the chapter title text changed for each chapter.

There are 39 chapters that start like this. 2 of them don’t work in the EPUB. They put the graphic on a page of it’s own. There is nothing unique about the chapter titles or text that follows the chapter titles in these 2 chapters that don’t work properly. There’s nothing special about the ending of the previous chapters.

How would you go about troubleshooting this? I’ve already spent about 5 hours on it. Ugh.

      TIA.

What is an InDesign CS-document? Which version of InDesign do you use exactly? Can you provide an example of the InDesign-file and the finnished EPUB?

The images should be anchored into the text box to keep it in place (I agree with Kai, any information about the version of InDesign you are using would be helpful as anchoring images may or may not be available in the version of InDesign you are using), but that does not guarantee that any ereaders will keep it with the lines of text preceding or following it, I mean you can open the ebook, put a div around the content you want to keep together and give it a class with “page-break-inside: avoid;”, which I have done in the past but it’s rather time consuming.

Oops. Sorry – I meant InDesign CC – current version, all updates up to date. The images are anchored into the text by using the type tool and pasting them at the cursor point. They are then followed by a return and then the title of the chapter. The paragraph style where the image is placed includes a page break before command, and in every chapter, that works properly. Because the image starts a new page, there is no reason that the title text shouldn’t appear on the same page as the image.

When asking for an example of the files – how can I provide them? I can privately email/transfer them. I don’t think I can upload here, can I?

      Thanks so much.

OK, then the correct answer should be InDesign CC2017. The reason why I want to now this so excact is, that the handling of things in the background changed from CC to CC 2014.

You can provide files, e.g. with dropbox.

Please don’t post a huge example, a small one as idml is enough. Please post a version, that is correct and a version, that is wrong. Post also your created epub with the wrong and correct example. Do you see the wrong behavior on every reader or on a special once?
