      Hi everyone!

I’m doing an ebook for a client and I’m trying to convert it to EPUB, but whenever I click “OK” to convert, my InDesign freezes and the rainbow wheel comes up and keeps spinning and spinning. I waited for it to load and hopefully convert for an hour or so but it wouldn’t budge. So I would always have to force quit InDesign. Here are the specs:

      – Page size is 5.25×8″
      – The eBook has been divided per chapter and has about 10-20 pages per chapter
      – I tried exporting the title page to epub; which is about 5 pages, and it would still get stuck
      – I’m exporting to EPUB Reflowable 2.0.1
      – The only images on it is a small moon on the chapter pages, and the title of the book on the title page
      – I’m using InDesign CC 2017.1
      – Fonts are Avenir Roman & Oblique, Charcuterie Block, and Ashbury Light

I’ve been trying to fix this problem for a while now and I’m running short on time as the deadline is next week.

If you need any other information to help solve this, I’ll gladly provide it!

      Hi Nada,

Try using Epub 3. That converted well for me.

      Good luck,

      Janis

Hey Janis! Thanks for the option but it still doesn’t seem to work. InDesign still continues to freeze up and I’ll always need to force quit the program.

Do you have any other options? I need to get this done pretty soon! :( Help!

      Hey All!

I found the solution! It was the Avenir font! Once I changed Avenir to Avenir LT, it exported perfectly! Yay!

@Nada Thank you so much for posting your solution!! This is still an issue into version CC 2019. Adobe needs to fix this! I updated software, tried every trick in the book, even uninstalled and reinstalled. Not sure if this is affected by fonts other than Avenir. FYI, if you just deselect ‘Include embeddable fonts’ on the HTML & CSS tab it works. It is possible that there is a fail built into the Avenir font to protect copyright. It’s always best practice to NOT embed fonts unless the client/you own the license to embed it.

The fonts don’t matter, EPUB 3 doesn’t help. InDesign crashes everytime I try to export
the file was originally created in 2019 and converted to 2020
I’ve created many ebooks – never had this problem before!
please help! This is for a customer!

Some time back I had a similar issue with a faulty Indesign file.
I saved it as an IDML file and then opened the IDML file.
That removed the issue, whatever it was, I never found out :-)
