      Hi.

I’m using Indesign for a looooong time and there is a thing that always bothered me and maybe you know a way to solve it: units. I’m in Brazil, so I need to work in “cm”, and until there, no problem. BUT when I change in preferences to “cm”, Indesign changes everything including paragraph window units, so if I click in the up button to increase “space after”, for instance, it give me 1 by 1 centimetres increments.

Illustrator has different units to “General”, “Stroke” and “Type”, and in there I can keep my centimetres and work with paragraphs using points (what is much better). Is there a way to do the same in Indesign? Okay, I can work in “mm” instead of “cm”, but I think it’s a little weird they not having an option like Illustrator.

I’m pretty sure both softwares are made by Adobe but developers team never use each other product. :) Another good example (off topic) is about re-linking: so smart in Indesign with “relink to folder” and so dumb in Illustrator. :)

      Many thanks,
      Luiz

You are correct that InDesign cannot have different measurement units for different things. But you can type your own measurements in. For example, if you have your measurements set to cm, then you can type 1/2" in a field and it converts inches to cm.

Thanks a lot, David. I never tried to type the unit. Will help a lot.
