My client wants a newsletter that is more or less a table of contents with links to actual articles but he does not want to add those articles to his website nor should they be visible in the newsletter itself. So, I exported the newsletter as a PDF and once in Acrobat I embedded the articles (saved as a single PDF), and added links between the two documents.
All the hyperlinks and the buttons linked to documents already on his website, and set in inDesign, work perfectly on the Mac, PC and iPad; none of the internal links created in Acrobat between the newsletter and the embedded articles work on the iPad and PC, but they work fine on the Mac. Is there a way to create buttons in ID that will link to a specific page in another document that will later be embedded in that ID file once they’re both saved as PDFs?
InDesign CC 2017.1
New development: none of the buttons created in ID work on the PC and iPad, only on the Mac. The hyperlinks are still working, though.
I’m not sure I have a clear understanding of what you’re trying to accomplish. If I have it right, you may find it will all work if you set up the articles and newsletter as an InDesign Book, then create your cross-document links.
