      Hi All,

I am working on a series of text books that have a set of exercises that build up across the series. These are to be numbered from 1 in the first book and continue up to >100 by the last book with each new book’s exercises picking up where the previous book’s exercises ended. Each of the books has 10-15 chapters as separate documents. I am asking if there is an “easy way” to do this across book files. Failing easy, is there an “optimal” way to accomplish this?

I currently have a paragraph style set up in the first book to number the exercises. In the second and following books I have had to create two styles: a 1st instance style that changes the Mode: Starts At: [previous books last exercise number +1]; the normal numbering page style from the first book. While this does work, it leaves much to be desired as any changes to a book’s exercises may render successive books’ numbering invalid/erroneous. I would prefer to have it be less manual and therefore less error-prone.

      Any suggestions?

      kf

Yes, you want a “List” in the numbered lists feature. Anne-Marie talked about that here:

Notice the “Continue Numbers from Previous Documents in a Book” feature.

I should have been more clear. I want to carry the numbering from Book to Book and not just from document to document.
