My document has facing pages. I place an object on the left master page.
If i apply the master to page 2, and the item I placed shows up on page 3.
If I apply the master to page 3, the item shows up as well. In other words.
If I delete the unwanted item, then if I add a page before page 2, it will be missing from the new page 3.
In other words, I don’t know how to tell indesign that a particular object belongs to one page.
BTW, I made sure the object doesn’t extend onto the facing master page.

I’ve had that happen, and the object didn’t extend onto the facing master. But they touched the page edge.

But–I think it had to be with the inside bleed. If I made sure the objects were a point away from the inside edge, then everything was okay. But if it touched the inside page edge, I’d have the problem.

Thanks for the response. The bleed was set for all four sides – I took off the bleed on the inside.
Your advice was definitely helpful, but I’m not done yet!
Now I have the last page in the chapter, an odd page, and the master items on the even side show up, off the last page. It’s not in my way, but it is annoying. I just release the master items and delete.
But I like knowing how to doing things the right way, so if anyone can advise…

I’ve found that any objects on the master page have to be one point away from the inside gutter. Just turning off the inside bleed won’t do it–especially for things like that last page.

It’s driving me nuts! I’m in middle of a big project and after being careful about all of the above, I still find items connected to the wrong side.
I can have a text box in middle of the page on both sides (no place near the edges), and when I apply the master page to just one page, the text box won’t come along. When I apply the master sheet to the facing page, both text boxes appear.
If I apply 2 separate master pages to one spread, items from one will appear on the other side.

Dwayne, thanks so much for your responses.

That is odd. Just out of curiosity–do you have layout adjustment turned on or off? It’s under “Layout” then you scroll down to Liquid Layout. I always have it turned on.

If you want to email me the file (you can delete the text if you’re not allowed to share it) I will look at it for you. I may not be able to do until tomorrow night or Saturday morning though. Or just send me the file with a few blank pages.

I have all versions of Indesign (CS6 through 2017). I’m on a Mac.

I can’t believe I read a conversation that I could have written myself!
I did think of moving the item away from the inside gutter, and a quarter point is sufficient, but it’s technically wrong. If I print a spread it will have a hairline of the background color missing.

But the pages fold (thus the spine). It won’t be seen.

This has been a problem in InDesign for ages… will they ever fix it? I’m one who likes to use precise measurements so having to reduce the width of a full bleed background by a slight increment gives me a nervous twitch!
