Does anyone know how to get auto-numbered headings to show up as pdf bookmarks with the numbering included? We have a 2,000 page document comprised of many InDesign files, assembled via the book command, with 7 levels of auto-numbered headings. We can run the TOC and get the numbered headings to show in the TOC, but in the PDF bookmarks we only get the live text from the heads, not the heading numbers.

I’m guessing that since the numbers show up in the TOC, InDesign has a way to store this information, so perhaps someone could write a script that would be able to find it and add it to the bookmarks. If anyone knows how to do this, please let me know!

      Thanks!

Matt, “Include Full Paragraph” is turned on? I made a simple test: with 1, 1.1, 1.2 … Those numbers are part of the toc, Indesigns bookmarks AND PDF bookmarks.

Kai – Thanks, that was what we needed. The client had been using auto-numbering in the TOC instead of pulling the numbers in from the heads in the chapters. Turning off the auto numbering in the TOC and using the full paragraphs allowed them to be included in the bookmarks.

      Thanks for your help!
