Hi. I need help. I think I’ve really done things the complicated way.

I’ve formatted a 300 plus page book. Within this book, different pages have different frames. When the frames start to flow (as the writer asks me for more changes), the pages start to no longer make a bit of sense. What I realize is that I need to put the formatting in the styles for the text. So, for instance I’ve been using a different (larger) frame when my page starts with the chapter title so that the chapter title is higher on the page. But I’m now realizing that I SHOULD have kept the frame the same and found a way (in styles??) to have a page that does not start with a chapter title start lower on the page. This said, I can’t figure out how to do it. If I have a body text style, how can I say, “when this type of text is at the top of a new page place the beginning of the text at _____ spot??

Am I making any sense? Wouldn’t it be great to be able to draw pictures on this forum? Anyway, folks have helped me out a lot here before and I’d appreciate any ideas. I think I’ve made a real mess. I have access to the Lynda library if there’s a tutorial you can recommend…

      thanks!

Well, since it’s text that you want to sink lower–you’d have to have master text frames on your master pages and you would need to go to Object > Text Frame Options > Baseline Options and set in a specified amount you want the text to sink. But you’d still have to have a separate text frame for the chapter title.

I personally think it’s easier to have separate master pages for chapter openers, text pages, part openers, etc.

Suppose you set up your text pages so the text sinks the way you want? Then, for the chapter opener, adjust your chapter title with a baseline shift so it sits up higher?

Thank you. This was helpful. In the meantime I redesigned the document completely but this helped me think things through.
