I have some problems with character styles in InDesign: when I import text from word, I find “italic” and I replace with character styles “Italic”, but sometimes it doesn’t work with particular gliphs (example letters with dieresis or letters with accent “È” or “« »”).
So I have the word in Italic with a single letter not in italic.
Do you have some ideas to solve it?
Thank you very much
What typeface are you using? Check that the fonts in use have italic glyphs for those characters. If they do, the fault may lie with the encoding brought in from MSWord or with how the italic was applied in MSWord. Characteristics applied to type brought in from MSWord can be very tenacious.
I have those problems sometimes (especially when en or em dashes come in as a small x’d box. Thankfully, I’m able to copy that character and replace with the correct one. Same thing with accents that come in as a small x’d box. Copy and put in the search field, and replace with the right character.
