      Hi.
I recently got an odd problem with QR-codes that are made in InDesign. I´m swedish and made QR-code inlcuding swedish characters å, ä ,ö in names and adresses. When doing that on my Mac and reading with QR-code reader in Android it all works fine. But when creating the same QR-codes on my work-Mac and watching it on an iPhone, it cant show the special characters. It works when creating QR-codes in an online generator, but not on my work-Mac. I use the Swedish version in InDesign and the characters is all right in every other function. But I can´t work it out on my Mac with InDesign. Is there a setting to fix the encodings anywhere. I can´t find anything when googling.

      Regards Richard

Do you think something is wrong with the QR code generated from InDesign on the Mac? Or something wrong with the iPhone reader?

      Hi

I found this article in the web: High ASCII Characters Are Not Printed in a QR Code Barcode
      (https://help.loftware.com/display/LPSKB/High+ASCII+Characters+Are+Not+Printed+in+a+QR+Code+Barcode)
But I don’t know if this can help. Maybe InDesign treats the special characters in a different way.

Ok I stuggled with this aswell.

I was trying to generate qr code with Data merge following those guides:

      Data Merge QR Codes Explained

      https://imagesmithblog.com/2014/07/18/qr-codes-indesign-cc-2014-data-merge/

In the guides the code for generating QR started with “BEGIN:VCARD\nVERSION:2.1\”

What fixed it for me was to change it to “BEGIN:VCARD\nVERSION:3.0\”

And now if works fine on both IOS and Android.

It might be a workaround cause the default tool for generating QR-codes in indesign is not working for me.

What app do you recommend for scanning documents?

I think you should install a new app that will recognize QR codes. Maybe your computer just does not support this format and needs additional tools. I have installed the app from https://smartengines.com/ on my phone and computer. I often scan photos, files in different formats, QR and barcodes. I can’t use just the camera, so I needed an additional app. Of all the ones I’ve tried, this is one of the best. Now I can easily scan any document and extract text from photos and PDF files. It makes my work tasks so much easier.

      Hello,

I’m using the Swedish version, and I’ve noticed that my older QR codes created in CC2014 work fine with “åäö,” but there seems to be an issue with CC2015 and CC2017. When scanned with a QR reader on iPhone running iOS 11.4, the characters “åäö” are not recognized.

That’s strange, Bruce. Have you tried it in the most recent version of InDesign?
